Beauty buyers don’t trust brands to tell them what works. They trust dermatologists, estheticians, and influencers and editors who’ve actually tested the product, and increasingly they get that perspective from an AI-generated search summary distilling the consensus across several credible sources rather than reading reviews one by one.
Search “what’s the best serum for sensitive skin” or “is this product actually worth the price,” and the result pulls from a relatively small set of trusted beauty publishers and dermatologist-reviewed content, synthesizes an answer, and the shopper buys based on that recommendation by going directly to the website. No publisher content click, no referral code, and until now, no way to measure that the publisher’s testing and credibility were what actually closed the sale.
Our 2026 Zero-Click Commerce Index™ measured this gap directly. Beauty & Personal Care came in at a category-wide HaloIndex™ of 2.96, meaning publisher-driven influence across the category is running at roughly three times what last-click measurement captures. But the category average undersells how extreme this can get for individual brands. Tower 28 Beauty posted a HaloIndex™ of 645, the single largest multiplier of any brand measured in this year’s report. Nearly all of the publisher influence behind Tower 28’s purchases is invisible to standard tracking.
That range, from a 2.96x category average to a 645x single-brand outlier, tells an important story about how beauty actually converts. This isn’t a category where influence is evenly distributed. It’s concentrated wherever a brand has earned genuine credibility with the handful of sources an AI trusts enough to cite repeatedly: the publication that ran the actual 12-week trial, the dermatologist who reviewed the ingredient list, the editor whose “best for sensitive skin” roundup gets referenced again and again.
For advertisers, the Tower 28 example is worth treating as a diagnostic question rather than an outlier to admire from a distance. If a single brand can see a 645x gap, the question for your own portfolio isn’t whether you have a measurement problem, it’s how large it currently is, and which publishers are quietly responsible for closing sales your dashboards aren’t crediting them for.
For publishers, this is direct evidence that rigorous, original testing content, the kind that takes real time and earns real trust, is generating commercial value far beyond what click-based commission structures currently reflect.
This is the challenge VantagePoint™ was designed to solve: scoring publisher influence on credibility, methodology, and the specific claims a source actually supports, then converting that into compensation governance that’s auditable and enforceable, click or no click.
